Welcome to the West Lindsey Churches Festival

West Lindsey's 2018 Open Churches Festival dates are 12-13 & 19-20 May. 90+ buildings, 750 volunteers, all churches free entry. The information below refers to the 2017 festival, and has been left in place to give website visitors an idea of what to expect in 2018.

Welcome to our 21st Birthday Party...

... and what a terrific party we are going to have... 94 buildings are opening their doors to celebrate... rich architecture and heritage, beautiful tranquillity and spirituality, vibrant exhibitions and music... as well as a welcoming oasis of peace and spirituality.

Numerous exciting activities are being staged to whet your appetites – from organ trails to flower and art displays, from bell-ringing to big brunch breakfasts. One church, at Nettleham, is even offering medieval pottage cobs, flaun and possett for you to savour! Or if you fancy partaking in a Cheese and Wine Evening then why not pop along to Laughton on the evening of Friday 12th May?

Our churches at Gainsborough are providing much varied exhibitions for you to enjoy… information on RAF’s 33 Squadron is on display at the Cemeteries and Chapel, St Thomas of Canterbury have an exhibition featuring nightware and the United Reformed Church ask “why did those radical Christians come from here?” So, go along and find out...

We have “Faith, Hope and Love” at Faldingworth, Scarecrows at Nettleham and Fiskerton, Wedding Gowns at Middle Rasen and Normanby le Wold. You can even travel “Somewhere over the Rainbow” when you visit Southrey!

Many of our churches are also celebrating life in their villages, Langworth, Saxilby, Reepham, Owmby by Spital and Upton to name but a few.

Alternatively, if all you want is a bit of time to yourself, to relax in the quiet of a beautiful spiritual building, then make sure you choose one of the self-nominated “quiet” churches.

And finally, many churches will have refreshments available to help nourish you on your visits, varying from tea, coffee and biscuits to a traditional full cooked English Breakfast.

Once again, we thank you for your support. We would not be here celebrating our 21st birthday if you did not return year after year, ensuring that this is one of the biggest and best Churches Festivals in the country. Not only are you supporting our church heritage, you are also supporting many of our small villages. And this support will help ensure that the lovely community spirit that binds these rural Lincolnshire villages together stays forever.

So come along and join the party!

The festival is also up and running in social media, with busy Twitter, Instagram and Facebook pages and an invitation to visitors to share their experiences and photographs live during the festival using the hashtag #ChurchesFest17.

The festival is organised by the West Lindsey’s Churches Festival Committee and sponsored by West Lindsey District Council and Systematic Print.
