Market Rasen - Holy Rood

Enter into the world of the mystical language of Icons. What do they mean? Why do they exist? We are running tours which will include an introduction to this mystical language. We will also have our vestments display - including the Sixhills cope, organ music, and centuries old books. There is a car parking area at the rear of the schoolroom. Please check in at the schoolroom on arrival and enjoy the delicious refreshments on offer.

Linwood - St Cornelius

Home of the Lynwode family. Two brasses of National Importance dedicated to the family. Birthplace of William Lynwode, author of Provinciale, consolidation of chancery law used as reference worldwide. The only Church dedicated to St Cornelius with stained glass windows, a medieval moat exists around part of the Church. A royal deer park was situated near the Church. Grade one listed with Grade two cross. One of the few spired Church towers in the county.

Scotter - St Peter

Our beautiful church has parts dating back to the 11th century, and unique 17th century ‘Ringers Rhymes’.

Bell ringers will be in attendance and giving demonstrations throughout the weekend.

The able bodied can climb the tower to view the bells and our 1848 James Harrison clock in its original case with notation and graffiti (small fee). Please ring 07971026272 on the day for times of tower visits.

A display by the local art group around the church, a mini cake stall and light refreshments.

St. Edith’s is a charming and unique pre reformation church, probably of Saxon origin.

It has a very rare rood screen and loft not to be missed.

Whilst steeped in history and situated in a unique setting, it attracts visitors from all over the world throughout the year.

There is the site of the old Saxon Village only a short walk away and a medieval game can be played inside the church.

Do come and join us and see for yourself this incredible tranquil setting and church. Access is off the Stow to Ingham road and it will be signposted.

Almost every century has made a distinctive contribution to the structure, a testimony to the many people whose spiritual home it has been. Amazingly it escaped the ravages of the Reformation and rebellion, aided, no doubt by the moated situation.

Wragby - Methodist

A small 19th century Methodist Chapel. Inside we have an organ dedicated to the men and one woman who died during WWI and WWII. We are a warm and welcoming chapel, altered to suit our needs in the 21st century.

Brookenby - St Michael & All Angels

No bell tower, no cemetery, but ample car parking space, heating and toilets. Not the typical Lincolnshire church. Brookenby Church has its home in a former accommodation block of the former RAF Binbrook. This is also home of the Angels Tearoom and Thrift shop, which is run by a group of enthusiastic volunteers. We are planning to hold an exhibition of local art work created by residents of Brookenby.

Dating from Saxon times we have many beautiful stained-glass windows including the Hayward East window.

Wall paintings and Bodley and Garner ceilings.

Beside the beck, we are a living, thriving Church with many and varied activities, central to village life and for quiet contemplation and prayer.

Saturday 11am to 11.45am Lincoln Society of Recorder Players.

Sunday 2.30pm Songs of Praise, choose your favourite hymn and join us in singing it.

Gainsborough - St Thomas of Canterbury

The church is a short 5 min walk from Marshall’s Yard.

Built in 1866 in Cross Street, a small narrow street, the church is Grade II listed.

There is a WWI memorial and photographs of how the church has looked through time. There will be a period costume display.

The church has some stained glass and a good organ.

Refreshments include tea, coffee & cake.

North Street and Roseway car parks are also nearby.

Willoughton • St Andrew

The church was partially rebuilt in 1794. A new West End Tower and Nave were built on to the 13th century Chancel. It was a typical George III church with a gallery at the West end and box pews. These have been swept away with the subsequent Victorian restoration in 1888, leaving behind the church seen today.

The remains of the Nicholas Sutton Tomb in the Sanctuary and the blocked up medieval perpendicular two-light window in the South wall of the chancel are the only surviving evidence of the earlier church.

Lovely church with fine features including: Christ Hospital Window, Memorial Window (planes of WWI and submarines), two standards from Old Scampton RAF camp, stencilling on ceiling above chancel, (Orford monument), and alleged gravestone of Lincolnshire poacher in the churchyard.

A jigsaw church of many periods from Anglo-Saxon to Victorian. There will be a display of kneelers.

Stow Minster • St Mary

Stow Minster, Ashley Taylor, Push Creativity*

The internationally renowned cruciform Anglo-Saxon Minster Church of St Mary dates to 975 AD, with a Norman chancel completed c. 1150 AD.

Important features include Viking graffiti from 10th/11th century, 12th/13th century fresco of Thomas Beckett, and a 13th century font.

Visit our exhibition of paintings (and some photographs) of the church by local artists and photographers past and present that show the building and its people.

Reepham • St Peter & St Pauls

Reepham church dates back to the 12th century, but was substantially remodelled in the Victorian period.

More recently the nave and tower were reordered to add modern seating, a servery and toilet.

The themed exhibition will be memories of the village past.

A small sale of plants and a churchyard tour will be available.

With Saxon origins, the church was rebuilt as a traditional Norman church with a narrow nave and chancel with west tower. A north aisle was added during the Early English period when the Bishop of Lincoln gave it to the Gilbertine Priory of St Katherine without Lincoln. The influence of this connection can be seen in the quality of the aisle arcade capitals, two of which can be matched to a mason working on Lincoln Cathedral.

This 20th Century brick built church may appear plain externally but benefits internally from some splendid features transferred from an estate chapel at Walmsgate near Louth.

This interesting building is used regularly each month by a group of worshippers of the Barlings group.

Light refreshments will be available alongside a small art and calligraphy display.

On this site Katherine Swynford, mistress of John of Gaunt lived and worshipped here. Come and find about their famous love affair and court scandal at the Katherine exhibition.

Also, an extensive display of artistic handcrafted kneelers and the famous restored French pulpit.

St Peter & St Paul’s church holds a service most Sundays always using The Book of Common Prayer.

Everyone of all ages welcome.

Heapham • All Saints

On entry to the church path, very visible on the tower is a keyhole window. Set in a picturesque setting, this delightful church has the remains of a Saxon cross very close to the south facing door as well as having features of Norman arches.

A very interesting feature are the two upside faces carved out on one of the pillars.

There is graffiti dating between 11th and 13th century. Also, a Norman tub font.

Hackthorn • St Michael & All Angels

A warm welcome awaits you at this beautiful Victorian Gothic church with fine carved woodwork situated in peaceful surrounding among trees and parkland of Hackthorn Hall, overlooking the lake.

There is an outstanding 1869 Nicholson organ of historic importance, restored in 1999.

A peal of six bells was installed in 2006. Tea, coffee, cold drinks and biscuits.
