Nettleham All Saints - Ashley Taylor, Push Creativity*

Dating from Saxon times we have many beautiful stained-glass windows including the Hayward East window.

Wall paintings and Bodley and Garner ceilings.

Beside the beck, we are a living, thriving Church with many and varied activities, central to village life and for quiet contemplation and prayer.

Saturday 11am to 11.45am Lincoln Society of Recorder Players.

Sunday 2.30pm Songs of Praise, choose your favourite hymn and join us in singing it.

Glentworth • St Michael

Glentworth St Michael (photo provided by the church)

St Michael’s church is a superb late 11th century church with a stained glass window by Charles Kempe in the Saxon tower.

It has a fine marble tomb of Sir Christopher Wray, Chief Justice of England during Elizabeth I’s reign, with his wife and children and is an Elizabethan gem.

Three of his children played leading roles in the spread of puritan ideas between 1600 and 1620 and were associated with the Mayflower Pilgrims that sailed to America from Boston.

Gainsborough - St Thomas of Canterbury

The church is a short 5 min walk from Marshall’s Yard.

Built in 1866 in Cross Street, a small narrow street, the church is Grade II listed.

There is a WWI memorial and photographs of how the church has looked through time. There will be a period costume display.

The church has some stained glass and a good organ.

Refreshments include tea, coffee & cake.

North Street and Roseway car parks are also nearby.

Lovely church with fine features including: Christ Hospital Window, Memorial Window (planes of WWI and submarines), two standards from Old Scampton RAF camp, stencilling on ceiling above chancel, (Orford monument), and alleged gravestone of Lincolnshire poacher in the churchyard.

Our many traditional Stations of the Cross adorn the walls of the nave, we have by way of contrast also added modern artwork and descriptions below each of them.

Old Church records, churchyard plan and monumental inscription information will be available to view.

In addition to light refreshments (and our ever popular Bacon Butties!), a plant stall will be available with vegetable and flowering plants to buy.

A jigsaw church of many periods from Anglo-Saxon to Victorian. There will be a display of kneelers.

Please note car parking will not be available in the Rose and Crown car park but available in cemetery car park in Church Road.

Stow Minster • St Mary

Stow Minster, Ashley Taylor, Push Creativity*

The internationally renowned cruciform Anglo-Saxon Minster Church of St Mary dates to 975 AD, with a Norman chancel completed c. 1150 AD.

Important features include Viking graffiti from 10th/11th century, 12th/13th century fresco of Thomas Beckett, and a 13th century font.

Visit our exhibition of paintings (and some photographs) of the church by local artists and photographers past and present that show the building and its people.

Spridlington - St Hilary

Enclosed by tall horse chestnut trees, St Hilary’s is an unusual late Victorian church designed by James Fowler of Louth in 1873.

Look for the high tower with saddleback roof, the stained glass windows (particularly the Nativity scenes in the West window) and the Victorian woodwork in the chancel.

The beautiful restored Thomas Nicholson organ is a point of interest.

Snitterby • St Nicholas

Our church is a little gem because it has several unique features. It has a stone exterior and a warm brick interior typical of James Fowler (rebuilt in 1866). The tower was rebuilt in 1894. Recent tower restoration work in 2022.

Visit us and enjoy a warm welcome and light refreshments in our lovely church.

Grade I listed St Genewys is a mainly 13th century church with the top of the tower in the later Perpendicular style.

Wall memorial to John Morley, Rector 1711-1731, a patron of John Wesley.

Hatchment of Fredricks’ family; sometime Lord of the Manor, patron and Baronet of Burood.

Scampton • St John the Baptist

Scampton - Ashley Taylor, Push Creativity

At Scampton we are proud to recognise our past association with the RAF including two stained glass windows dedicated to all personnel from RAF Scampton and 617 Squadron.

By using our interactive screens explore the history of the service men buried in the graveyard. There will also be an exhibition of the Dambusters Raid.

“Saxilby Fragment” - a significant surviving piece of medieval musical manuscript.

Early Norman doorway in the north aisle. Oak chancel screen with its original 15th century tracery. 15th century font.

Fine organ by W. Hill, London, 1894.

North aisle stained-glass window 1935, by Sir Ninian Comper claimed by some to be the greatest church furnisher since Wren.

The church and family mausoleum is believed to have been designed by Lancelot “Capability” Brown – built c1775 whilst working for Richard 4th Earl Scarborough. Brown designed several churches (including Compton Verney in Warwickshire and Combe D’Abitot in Worcestershire), whilst carrying out his landscape commissions on estates around the country. The church is a wonderful example of the classical style he used.

Reepham • St Peter & St Pauls

Reepham church dates back to the 12th century, but was substantially remodelled in the Victorian period.

More recently the nave and tower were reordered to add modern seating, a servery and toilet.

The themed exhibition will be memories of the village past.

A small sale of plants and a churchyard tour will be available.

Pilham • All Saints

Pilham - Copyright Ashley Taylor, Push Creativity

Described by visitors as “quaint”, “charming”, “peaceful” and “small but perfect”. All Saints is one of the smallest churches in England and records show a vicar in place from 1269.

The tower may well be original but there have been major changes to the chancel since, a drawing of 1789 shows the door in the righthand wall.

There will be light refreshments available, a small display of vintage vehicles and church records for visitors to look through.

Northorpe • St John the Baptist

Standing on a mound in the centre of the village our church is an unknown gem. The capitals of the sturdy pillars are decorated with scallops, all different. There are intriguing masons marks on one of them, a 1498 incised slab, a 1595 brass and a medieval altar stone.

Morton • St Paul

Morton St Paul and its labyrinth

St Paul’s has ten windows designed by Edward Burne-Jones, who worked on them with William Morris.

The carpet in front of the altar is also of a William Morris design.

The font is of Frosterley marble and has a beautifully carved canopy.

The Augustus Gern organ was built in 1891 and the organ case is a fine piece of craftsmanship.

Do come and enjoy our theme of ‘An English Country Garden’ and delicious refreshments.

Langworth • St Hugh

This 20th Century brick built church may appear plain externally but benefits internally from some splendid features transferred from an estate chapel at Walmsgate near Louth.

This interesting building is used regularly each month by a group of worshippers of the Barlings group.

Light refreshments will be available alongside a small art and calligraphy display.
