Situated on The Viking Way, the 1830s’ St Nicholas is brick built, light and peaceful, with stained glass windows, east window was reclaimed from a church in Eton. Late 1800s’ hand carved oak rood screen and oak pews each end having carved emblems depicting the apostles and tribes of Israel. Belfry open to view the static bells rung from an “Ellacombe Apparatus” and 1860s’ clock made and installed by Benson’s of London. WWI memorial plaque. Organ dating 1895. Some Parish records.

New for 2024: St Edmunds will be hosting “Value It! Flog It? Bring along one item and Guy Macklam from Thomas Millers and Tessa Laverack from John Taylors will be on hand to give expert advice. Rebuilt in 1863, the cruciform church retains the 14th century Perpendicular tower. Displaying Church register copies from 1559, local produce stalls, climb the tower and enjoy an outside exhibit of Classic vehicles. Serving light refreshments. Open both days 11-4 please join us.

St Oswald’s is surrounded by a deserted medieval village site. Inside is a surprising number of notable monuments, both in brass and stone, dating from the 14th - 16th century. Outstanding is a rare coped stone coffin lid, believed to date from between the 10th and 12th centuries. Information on church history, brass rubbing, cake stall.

We are embracing ‘Hymns, Songs & Psalms’ theme and will have flowers and exhibits to view. Visitors will receive a warm welcome, light refreshments and a chance to browse amongst the many plants and books for sale. The most notable feature of our church, nestled in a valley at the foot of the Wolds is the tower. Except for the 15th century top stage and buttresses it was built in late Saxon times.

A warm welcome awaits everyone at St Peter & St Paul’s. Through the south entrance door, a splendid example of Norman work with three bands of mouldings of continuous motif, an inner zigzag, a middle band of crenellation and an outer band of beakheads. It is among the country’s most impressive Norman doorways. Displays will focus on ‘Spring in Summer’. Ploughmans lunches, cakes, tea and coffee served both days.

The building is kept in good condition which still gives it the “wow” factor to those who enter the church for the first time. Langton by Wragby is famous as the birthplace of Stephen Langton who was Archbishop of Canterbury and the principle architect of Magna Carta. There is a stained glass window dedicated to him in the church.
There will be displays in the church on Stephen Langton, Magna Carta and local history.

The Stephen Langton Trail 

The new Stephen Langton Trail that passes through or near six festival churches where you can stop for refreshments, including

1. Langton 
2. Wragby 
3. Apley 
4. Fiskerton  
5. Greetwell
6. Cherry Willingham

A 16.5 mile walking trail from the birthplace of Archbishop Stephen Langton, key in the sealing of Magna Carta, to the historic city of Lincoln.
The Stephen Langton Trail starts at the Lincolnshire village of Langton-by-Wragby, birthplace of Archbishop Stephen Langton, and takes a meandering and picturesuqe 16.5 mile walk to historic Lincoln and Lincoln Castle, home to an original copy of the 1215 Magna Carta.
The trail is split into three sections to allow for all abilities and so the walk can be split up over a space of time:

• Section One leads from Langton-by-Wragby to Apley through the Lincolnshire Limewood Nature Reserve (4 miles)

• Section Two from Thistle Storr Wood near Apley to Fiskerton along the Viking Way (6¼ miles)

• Section Three follows the River Witham Valley from Fiskerton on a delightful riverside walk to Lincoln's Cathedral Quarter (6¼ miles).

Surrounded by trees, St Peter’s is a peaceful and unspoilt church with an appealing simplicity. The solid rustic tower is from the twelfth century or even earlier, and the rest of the church dates mainly from the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries. The windows in the south aisle contain rare and pretty fourteenth century stained glass showing St Catherine with her wheel (looking strongly like a dart board) and St Cecilia playing a handheld organ.

The church dates to the 13th century. It has exquisite stained glass, a very rare and beautiful mosaic and marble reredos, a carved rood screen and painted chancel ceiling. In 1259 it’s former vicar became Bishop of London.

St Peter’s is situated close to the attractive village pond at the heart of the conservation area of Great Limber. A Grade I listed building, first erected in the 12th century, the church has been subject to additions and alterations particularly in the 19th century. Features of interest include stained glass and a lychgate. For further information there is a history leaflet available. Ample parking and toilets at the village hall. You are most welcome to visit.

All Saints sits in a commanding position in the village. The church was extensively restored in the 19th century by Revd Charles Tennyson Turner, brother of poet Laureate Alfred Lord Tennyson. Memorial to Charles and his wife Louisa. East Window is particularly attractive. Embroidery exhibition by Grasby Embroiderers and other attractions.

Friesthorpe’s sacrifice during the Great War was the loss of five of eight sons in the Beechey family, and two other soldiers, such a loss for one tiny community. Admire the Beechey window, so generously given in their memory and appreciate our new path which makes access to our church so much easier.

This little roadside church is the thirteenth century chancel of a larger church which was a ruin until 1889, when the chancel was gently restored and a west porch added. Inside you can see a fourteenth century stone slab with an incised cross and chalice commemorating a priest, and Latin inscriptions in praise of the Virgin Mary adorn on the wooden ceiling. A fine font and pews have been rescued from other historic churches.

You will get a warm welcome at this 14th century church, much altered in the 1870s. We have good Victorian stained glass, a founder’s tomb and an elaborate 16th century memorial as well as two corbel ends showing faces with tongues sticking out. We will also have a display depicting ‘The Spirit of Claxby.’ Claxby gone by - stories told in artifacts, Claxby present - village life in 21st century and Claxby the Future - what plans the church has going forward.
