East Barkwith • St Mary

East Barkwith - Copyright Churches Festival
Basically 14th century, sympathetically restored in the 19th century. The font is decorated with instruments of The Passion, with human and lions’ heads between. The pulpit is metal in the Arts and Crafts style, made by Christopher Turnor of nearby Panton Hall. There are fragments of early glass and a 20th century window by Edward Payne. The church is set amongst trees – an oasis of peace and quiet.
