Brattleby • St Cuthbert

St Cuthbert’s sits in peaceful and secluded wooded grounds on the southern edge of the village. The lower section of the tower dates to the 11th century. The bells are some of the oldest in the county, installed in 1450.

The churchyard contains the base of a listed Saxon cross, pre-dating the church and the thought provoking grave of WWII pilot Clare Connor (full story in church). the Saxon inner arch and the 14th century chancel arches show evidence of wall paintings.

Visitors are assured of a warm welcome, with drinks and light refreshments being served, donations accepted.

A church has stood on this site for 1000 years. The current church has been the subject of four documented restorations, 1450, 1778, 1858 and finally in 2013 at a cost of £130,000 funded by English Heritage.

Blyton • St Martin

Blyton church has an impressive display of the flags of the allies in WWI. They hang above arcades 6 and 7 centuries old. The chancel, although much rebuilt last century, has its original East window of about 1300, its old piscina and aumbry and a 15th century window and part of the old rood beam is still over the arch. The font, with carved panels and embattled top, is a handsome example of 15th century craftsmanship.

Ashley Taylor, Wragby All Saints, for the National Churches Trust

This fine Victorian church has a gallery, a rare organ, a medieval stoup and a fascinating bell tower including 15th century bells.

Fine stained glass windows depict ‘Faith, Hope and Charity.’

Snelland • All Saints

Snelland All Saints - Ashley Taylor for the National Churches Trust

This beautiful atmospheric church dates back to the 12th century. It contains beautiful carved stone medieval faces and a rare ‘Leper’s window’ that enabled succour to be passed to those with leprosy who

had to stay outside the church.

Thomas Retford, vicar, courageously gave his life in the Lincolnshire Rising.

St Oswald’s is surrounded by a deserted medieval village site. Inside is a surprising number of notable monuments, both in brass and stone, dating from the 14th - 16th century.

Outstanding is a rare coped stone coffin lid, believed to date from between the 10th and 12th centuries. Information on church history, brass rubbing, cake stall.

Middle Rasen • St Peter and St Paul

A warm welcome awaits everyone at St Peter & St Paul’s.

Through the south entrance door, a splendid example of Norman work with three bands of mouldings of continuous motif, an inner zigzag, a middle band of crenellation and an outer band of beakheads. It is among the country’s most impressive Norman doorways.

Displays will focus on ‘Holiday Memories’. Various hot homemade soups, bread rolls, tea, coffee, cold drinks, cakes and biscuits will be served both days.

Market Rasen • Methodist Church

Large impressive Grade II* listed Methodist Church open in 1863. Original piped organ. Doored pews. Balcony and large front pillars.

The building is kept in good condition which still gives it the “wow” factor to those who enter the church for the first time.

East Barkwith • St Mary

Come and celebrate what we have done! Enjoy coffee and cake in our new seating area. The church tower has been enhanced to contain a servery and a new disabled access WC has been added sympathetically to the church.

But the beauty of the 14th century restored church remains set in an oasis of peace. The font is decorated with instruments of The Passion, the pulpit is metal in the Arts & Crafts style, made by Christopher Turner. Fragments of early glass and a 20th century window by Edward Payne.
